On January 29th, 2025 at approximately 8:47 PM EST, Flight JIA5342 (a PSA Airlines flight operated as American Airlines Flight 5342) collided mid-air with a US Army UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter, callsign PAT25. The airliner was on final approach to runway 33 at KDCA Ronald Reagan National Airport when it collided with the helicopter approximately .8 miles from the runway. The KDCA Tower air traffic controller notified PAT25 of JIA5342's position and cleared the helicopter for "visual seperation" less than 15 seconds before the crash. Some speculate that the helicopter may have mistaken AAL3130 for JIA5342, leaving them unaware of the airliners location leading up to the crash.
